KitchenAid Dishwasher Problems

Not having enough hot water is a common problem with dishwashers that don’t clean as well as they used to. Oftentimes, this can happen when the water coming into your dishwasher isn’t getting hot enough to clean the dishes properly. You can keep the hot water running in your kitchen sink to preheat the dishwasher before you run it. This makes sure that there’s hot water going to your KitchenAid dishwasher. You can also change your cycle settings on your dishwasher, or adjust the thermostat setting on your water heater. Be sure to look for food caught in the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher if your KitchenAid dishwasher is not equipped with a self-cleaning filter.

Improper loading of the detergent cartridge is another possible reason your dishes may come out dirty. Most people forget to fill both sides, but the two sides of the cup should be filled. The detergent cup door may be broken if your dishes are still spotty after properly filling the cup. Check to see if the detergent cup is greasy or dirty; this could be causing it not to open, so be sure that the entire cup assembly is clean before you try to wash another load of dishes. If you run the dishwasher again and continue to have issues with the detergent cup, even after you’ve carefully cleaned the cup, you may need to have a professional repair technician replace the cup.

When loading your dishwasher be sure to put the plastic cups and smaller items on top. Because the water shooting from the spray arms is highly pressurized, it can cause items to get knocked out of the bottom rack. Plastic parts can start to melt after they’ve gotten stuck on the heating element, so check the element if you smell a bad odor while your dishwasher is running. Check your owner’s manual if you aren’t sure how to locate the element and of course contact us any time you have problems with your KitchenAid dishwasher.
